Sunil Chhetri Gets FIFA Honour Alongside Ronaldo, Messi & It’s A Proud Moment For India Fans

Cristiano Ronaldo maintains the number 1 spot of top international goal scorer in men’s football with 117 goals in 191 appearances.

Lionel Messi is second highest among active goal scorers and recently secured his 100th international win with a brace against Jamaica and taking his goal tally to 90 goals in 164 appearances.

Indian captain Sunil Chhetri is standing in the third position amongst active players with 84 goals in 131 appearances. It is a big achievement for Indian Football and fans going crazy over FIFA World Cup Twitter and Instagram posts that included Chhetri alongside Messi and Ronaldo.

Chhetri holds the record for most goals scored by an Indian player in international football and most international caps by an Indian player.

It would not be wrong to say that Chhetri has single-handedly put Indian football on the world map.
The Khel Ratna awardees, along with the sport’s greats – Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, received recognition from FIFA, the world football body, on Tuesday (September 27).

FIFA posted a tweet in which they highlighted the fact that Chhetri is the third highest goalscorer among active footballers behind Ronaldo and Messi.

FIFA has launched a new video platform – FIFA Plus where they share the stories of football players.

Sunil Chhetri’s series has three episodes where he tells about his journey to become the best football player in the country.
Among active football players, Ronaldo leads with 117 international goals, while Argentina’s Lionel Messi is second with 90 goals to his name. Chhetri is third with 84 goals in 131 matches.

FIFA, the governing body of world football, has released three episodes.

The talismanic series on the life and career of the Indian football team captain in recognition of his achievements and goal-scoring exploits.

FIFA announced that three episodes are available on its streaming platform FIFA+.

FIFA tweeted from its handle, “All you know about Ronaldo & Messi, now get the definitive story of the 3rd most active men’s international. Sunil Chhetri | Available now on FIFA+.”

The 38-year-old Chhetri is third in the list of active footballers with 84 strikes after Cristiano Ronaldo (117) and Lionel Messi (90).

Chhetri began his professional football journey with Mohun Bagan of the National Football League after playing with City Football Club of New Delhi. After his first season with the club, the 2002–03 season, Chhetri had scored four goals as Mohun Bagan finished in seventh place in the table.

Chhetri made his India debut in 2005 and has played 131 matches since then, including one against Vietnam on Tuesday.
